Bengals WR John Ross Admits Trade Rumors ‘Not a Secret’

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver John Ross (11) runs drills during warmups before the first quarter of the NFL Week 1 game between the Seattle Seahawks and the Cincinnati Bengals at CenturyLink Field in Seattle on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019.

It looks like Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver John Ross really wants to get out of town. On Friday, he wrote a message on Twitter, explicitly expressing his intentions. Here is what he said:

“It’s not a secret that i have requested a trade. Trade me if this how y’all feel. I’m healthy and eager to play. I know I can be productive. It’s hard to love something when your not actually participating in it. Believe me, its not football that i don’t like.”

This season, John Ross has only started one game and played in three. He has only had seven targets and 17 receiving yards through the first seven weeks of the season.

Perhaps on a struggling team in the Bengals, who are only 1-5-1 so far this season, he deserves more playing time. Last season, in his third season in the league, he was productive. In eight appearances in 2019 for Cincinnati, he had 63.3 yards per game and scored a total of three touchdowns. He could not appear in the other eight regular-season games due to an injured sternoclavicular joint that nearly threatened his life. Maybe he does have a right to be frustrated.

Unfortunately for Ross, the Bengals seem to be firm in their stance of not playing him, according to NFL insider Adam Caplan: “[The] Bengals stance on John Ross has been the same since day one: They’d rather let him walk in March than get something for him now. There are teams interested in him, but they have not been willing to move him.”

If the Cincinnati Bengals are unable to move John Ross before the trading deadline on Tuesday, Ross will have to wait until March for free agency.

Whenever he gets out of Cincinnati, he could go to the New York Jets or the New York Giants, where he can get a fresh start while most likely receiving plenty of action on the field.
