Following Canelo Alvarez’s win over Jermell Charlo on Saturday night, a video of Stephen Jackson interacting with Alvarez’s family post-fight has surfaced. Jackson is seen visibly upset for having to wait for the world champion’s entire group to pass by. So much so, that he takes matters into his own hands, exclaiming to security, “Why We Gotta Wait for Them? We Not Waiting!”

Despite the commotion, Jackson’s exasperation was the climax of the interaction. Nearby security acquiesced to the NBA champion’s vociferous demands, allowing him and his family to cut off the seemingly endless Alvarez company.

Stephen Jackson comments on the incident

With the moment garnering millions of views on social media, the 45-year-old elected to give his side of the situation.

Prior to the altercation, he explained that he was told that Alvarez’s family was going to pass through first. While Jackson had no issue with that, he was consternated by having to wait for 30 people. Unsure of how many more individuals had to come through, Jackson says he had to interject.

“The first secuiry guard came and was like, ‘How you doing Mr. Jackson? Can you let Canelo’s fanily thorugh?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, of course.’ Me and my people stood to the side and about 30 people pass by. This one cop want to grab me becasue I’m trying to get by. I’m like, ‘I waited for 30 people, if he got 40 more people that’s family, then they’re gonna have to wait.’

I was respectful to wait for 30 people. I gotta get out of here too. I’m not waiting for 60 other people that might not even be his family. I had something to say, I sure did, and I got my family through … We all got somewhere to go. I bet you don’t put your hands on nobody no more.”
