Anthony Joshua handled business on Saturday by knocking out Francis Ngannou in the second round of their fight at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The two-time unified heavyweight boxing champion was never in trouble and finished Ngannou with a right to the temple.

Joshua knocked down the former UFC heavyweight champion three times in two rounds. When the Briton landed a clean punch the third time, it was lights out.

“That was a clean one. In fact, I didn’t feel the punch. That’s what the knockout is about. I don’t feel any pain. That’s how I know I was knocked out.

Ngannou stayed down for several minutes after the knockout blow but appeared to be okay. The 37-year-old issued an apology to his fans on social media after the disappointing result.

The Cameroonian fighter has nothing but respect for Joshua. He acknowledged that his right hand gave him problems and it was evident with the result of the fight. The 34-year-old boxer from Watford, England remained patient, worked the jab, and went for the kill when he saw openings.

With the defeat, Ngannou dropped to 0-2 in his pro boxing career. He narrowly lost his first pro boxing fight against Tyson Fury, where Ngannou knocked Fury down once. That said, in hindsight, it’s an arduous task for a boxing newbie like Ngannou to keep up against the sport’s best in his first fights.

What will happen next is still up in the air for Ngannou. For now, the Jon Jones fight is not going to happen as they are now under different promotions.

He reportedly plans to go back to fighting in MMA against Renan Pereira at the PFL, but could also pursue other fights in the squared circle. He pocketed $20 million in this Anthony Joshua fight alone, so that’s not going to be surprising.
