Once again, the Houston Astros have suspicions of cheating in the MLB playoffs. At this point, the entire baseball world knows of the team’s now-infamous cheating in the 2017 World Series. Now new allegations surround the team’s 2021 postseason.

Currently, the Astros hold a 3-2 series lead on the Boston Red Sox in the ALCS, but their lead may be in doubt due to cheating accusations coming from fans.

Following Houston’s 9-1 win Wednesday night, some fans pointed out a whistling noise coming from the broadcast. This rose suspicions as the Astros also allegedly previously used whistling to cheat in the 2019 ALCS.

Back then, the Yankees also heard whistling from the Astros dugout before their pitches. While no proof actually came from the incident, members of the Yankees coaching staff expressed concerns over the sounds.

“If a pitcher is tipping and the players can see from the dugout, no biggie. If they get it from somewhere else, that’s dicey.”

Prior to Yordan Alvarez’s solo home run, fans heard whistling noises coming from the Astros’ dugout. While suspicious, whistling doesn’t necessarily correlate with cheating. Oftentimes, whistling could be code language that allows coaches to give advice to batters.

However, the whistling this time around is even more suspicious as one fan pointed out a pattern in the whistles. That same sound pattern came up just before Jose Altuve’s home run in game 4.

Regardless of whether the cheating this year is simply a rumor or not, the Astros remain one of the MLB’s most hated teams. Despite the MLB investigating and finding proof of cheating within the team, there were barely any repercussions.

The aftermath of the scandal has led to incidents like Joe Kelly’s violent trash talking against the team last year. Fans around the league also have a new distaste for the organization.

As of now, no official investigation has been launched by the league, and the team is just one win away from the World Series.
