Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 marks the end of some of our favorite character’s arcs, either through death or simply a goodbye. There were leaks earlier this year that hypothesized which of the main cast would meet their end. It was hard to dispute these leaks as director James Gunn said some words confirming such news. Audiences will now see if tragedy did befall our favorite heroes.
Summary of the Movie

Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord, is still accepting that his beloved girl, Gamora, doesn’t remember the entirety of their relationship. Suddenly, a strong alien with human features attacks one of his team members. As a result, the victim is now in terrible shape and could potentially die in any second. Star-Lord then steps up, gathers his team, and attempts to save one of his own.
From here on out, we’d like to warn readers of potential spoilers about this movie. In addition, this is also part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 explores Rocket’s past. As the movie progresses, a villain named ‘High Evolutionary’ emerges and threatens the life of Rocket, the Guardians, and an entire race. Audiences will find themselves fearing for the safety of the team and other newly introduced side characters throughout the movie.
Characters who were killed in the movie
1. Lylla

Lylla is a new character in this third movie. She is an otter played by Linda Cardellini, who also happens to be Clint’s wife in Avengers Endgame.
Lylla was Rocket’s first friend. The High Evolutionary created both of them under batch 89. The two had a special bond as Lylla taught Rocket what family and friendship truly meant. It was also revealed later in the movie that these two were romantically involved.
Unfortunately, their love didn’t last long. A glimmer of hope appeared when Rocket freed her from their cages. But as soon as she stepped out, a bullet took her life. Audiences will soon realize that it was the High Evolutionary who snuffed out Lylla’s future.
Something snapped within Rocket, making him go berserk. It was melancholic for him to use the gun that killed Lylla as his first weapon.
2. Teefs

Teefs was another family member of Rocket during his early life as an experimented raccoon. The character was voiced by Asim Chaudhry, who also made an appearance in Wonder Woman 1984.
Teefs is a walrus that named himself Teefs due to his signature large tusks. He had a wheelchair ingrained in his body to get the ability to sit upright. His death happened in a very similar way to the next character on this list
3. Floor

Floor is a rabbit and is the last member of Rocket’s family in his early life. She named herself Floor because they were on the floor when they were thinking about what they would name themselves. Both she and Teefs were a source of comedic relief during Rocket’s flashbacks.
At the moment of Rocket’s escape, (with Lylla, Floor, and Teefs) he resorted to violence to carve his way to freedom. He managed to kill every security personnel, but as soon as he turned around, he realized he was too late. Both Floor and Teef were on the ground, lifeless, as the guards shot them during battle.
4. Ayesha
Ayesha is the Golden High Priestess of the Sovereign. Simply put, she is the leader of a race of Golden people created by the High Evolutionary. She first appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but her fate ended in this third movie. Ayesha is performed by the actress Elizabeth Debicki, who also appeared in The Great Gatsby and Tenet.
Ayesha truly loved her son, Adam Warlock, due to the potential she saw in him. She spends most of the third movie guiding him and even defending him from the High Evolutionary.

However, when her master decided to destroy Counter-Earth due to lack of perfection, Ayesha was caught in the chaos. She was sitting in her ship when an explosion killed her off.
5. The High Evolutionary
The High Evolutionary is the most atrocious character in the entire movie. He was a talented creature who could create species and an entire race. The man aimed to create a ‘perfect species’ to build his utopia as he viewed everyone else as lower life forms.
He illegally abducted endless animals and performed experiments on them to create highly intelligent lifeforms. Rocket and Lylla were just some of these animals.
Chukwudi Iwuji, who was behind the High Evolutionary, even commented that his character is “a villain with a God complex” in one of his major press conferences.
By the end of the movie, the Guardians were able to overpower the High Evolutionary. They removed his face, revealing a horrifying sight of what lies underneath. Rocket seemingly wanted to end his life but decided not to at the last second. With the ship crashing, everyone left the High Evolutionary on the floor as they escaped to safety.

There is uncertainty rising among fans on whether or not the High Evolutionary survived the explosion. Due to the lack of body shown, fans will not be surprised if this villain appears sometime in the future.
Where are the other Guardians now?
It is to everyone’s pleasant surprise that none of the major Guardians faced their end in this movie. However, this movie still marks the end of an era. Most of the major characters went through emotional internal journeys throughout the movie and decided that they would take a step back from their galactic adventures.
Star-Lord (Peter Quill)
Our main hero decides to come back home to Earth after visiting numerous planets. Peter has always struggled to confront his problems regarding his family. But with the help of his friends, he finally found the courage to return to his grandfather after decades of absence.
And so he knocks on the last address he knows, and an old yet pleasing lady greets him. The credits later revealed her to be ‘Grandma Quill.’ Peter asks the old lady if a man named Jason Quill is in the house. She ushers him in and directs him to a familiar old man sitting outside. Jason Quill couldn’t believe his eyes. His grandson finally came home after 38 years.
By the end of the movie, the phrase, “The legendary Star-Lord will return” appears.
Mantis

Mantis also said goodbye to the Guardians as she decided to go through a journey of self-discovery. At first, Drax insists on coming with her, but she stands her ground, saying that she needs to do it alone. With the help of the Abilisks she befriended earlier in the movie, Mantis says goodbye to Drax and the life she once knew.
The Old and New Guardians of the Galaxy
With Star-Lord gone, Rocket Racoon is now the leader of the new Guardians team. His members include Groot, Kraglin, Cosmo, Adam Warlock, and Phyla-vell.
As for the remaining members of the old Guardians, Nebula, and Drax focus on rebuilding a new society in Knowhere. They wanted to create a safe home for the species that were tortured and imprisoned by the late High Evolutionary. Moreover, Nebula commended Drax’s ability to connect with the kids, as shown earlier in the movie. Due to this, she expressed her need for his help in rebuilding this new society.
Overall, it is great to see major characters living throughout the movie. With the new Guardians formed under Rocket’s leadership, there is a chance that we get to see them in action again in the far future. But for now, that’s all you need to know about what happened in Guardians the Galaxy Volume 3.
