Baseball is finally back.
After months of frustration for both players and fans alike, Major League Baseball will return next month.
After the novel coronavirus put the world on shutdown, the sports world seems to be returning after an extended break.
Both the NBA and NHL seasons resume July 30th, NFL training camps open in late July, and the MLS starts up July 8th.
The MLB and the Players Union have agreed upon a deal for a 60 game 2020 season. Training camps start July 1st with games returning July 23rd or 24th.
60 games is a significant decrease from the usual 162. To put it into perspective, the reigning World Series Champions Washington Nationals wouldnt have even made the playoffs last season under the current regime.
Persisting Uncertainty
Despite the shortened season, theres no lack of headlines and questions heading into the season. Will Mookie Betts and the Dodgers be able to bring a World Series to LA? Will Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout be able to lead the Angels into a deep postseason run? How will the Astros deal with the scrutiny? Do the young and inexperienced Blue Jays have a shot at making the postseason?
All these questions, and more, will all be answered in a few short months.
With baseball set to return, the MLB will be lifting the current transaction freeze this Friday at noon, allowing teams to make trades. There will also be a universal DH this season.
Teams are expected to play most of their games this season against teams in the same division as them.
