Disney confirms the release of Moana 2 with a brand new teaser. The upcoming sequel will hit theaters on November 27, 2024, globally.

Audiences can see Moana basking in a new dawn as she feels the white sand on her feet. By the end of the teaser, fans could hear Maui’s excited yet familiar yell, signaling a potential return of the demigod.

Disney also blessed fans with a short synopsis which audiences can view below:

“Walt Disney Animation Studios’ epic animated musical “Moana 2” takes audiences on an expansive new voyage with Moana, Maui and a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced. Directed by Dave Derrick Jr. with music by Grammy® winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foa’i, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina, “Moana 2” opens in theaters on Nov. 27, 2024.”

Official description of the first Moana Teaser

It seems that Moana and Maui would have to work together once more as the young seafarer received a crucial call from her ancestors.

To make things even spicier, Disney also posted a first-look image on their official Instagram page.

The glowing blue whale bears a striking resemblance to Moana’s late grandma when she transformed into a manta ray in the original movie. This strongly suggests that perhaps this beautiful whale may be one of Moana’s ancestors.

Moana 2 Cast and Crew

The teaser’s descriptions suggest that Lin Manuel Miranda won’t be returning this time around. Four talented Grammy winners and nominees would be working on Moana 2’s music.

First are Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, who were known for the Unofficial Bridgerton Musical.

Opetaia Foa’i and Mark Mancina will also be returning. Foa’i previously worked on We Know The Way, while Mancina worked on most of the background music found in the original Moana.

David G. Derrick Jr. will also be directing Moana 2. He previously worked on the first Moana, Megamind, and Raya and the Last Dragon.

Unfortunately, neither of the two announcements confirmed whether Auli’i Cravalho (Moana), Dwayne Johnson (Maui), and other main cast members would be returning.
