Police Identify New Suspect in the Disappearance of Madeleine Mccann

LONDON, ENGLAND - MAY 02: Kate and Gerry McCann hold an age-progressed police image of their daughter during a news conference to mark the 5th anniversary of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, on May 2, 2012 in London, England. The McCann's today stated that there is "no doubt" that authorities will re-open the investigation into their daughter's disappearance. Three-year-old Madeleine went missing while on holiday with her parents in the Algarve region of Portugal in May 2007.

Police say they have identified a new suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

“This is the best day I’ve ever had.” – Madeleine McCann, according to her mother, just hours before her kidnapping.

When on vacation with her family in Portugal in 2007, a three-year-old girl, Madeleine McCann, was abducted from her apartment. She has not been seen since.

On May 3rd, 2007, Madeleine’s parents say they took her and her sister to their apartment. Gerry and Kate Mccann (the parents) reportedly arrived at 6:00 PM. They then put their kids to bed and went to a restaurant within the resort they were staying at.

Gerry McCann says that he checked on the kids frequently by putting his ear up to their door. At about 10:00 PM, Kate McCann says that she went into the room to check on their children. They were gone and the apartment window was open. She says she immediately notified police.

A suspect says that she saw a man walking out of the resort with a child at about 9:15 PM.

There is a rule in Portugal that makes it illegal to talk about a current investigation. Thus, facts about what happened to Madeleine that night are few and far between.

However, the police have identified a new suspect. This could be the first break the case has had in years.

The New Suspect in the McCann Case

Police say they have identified German man Christian Brückner as a prime suspect in Madeleine McCann’s disappearance.

Brückner, 43, has a pretty heavy rap sheet including child sexual abuse, rape, drug dealing, and theft.

Christian Brückner is also being investigated for similar cases of a five-year-old girl who went missing in Germany in 2015. He also is potentially involved in the disappearance of a six-year-old German boy in Portugal 24 years ago.

Brückner raped a 72-year-old tourist at a beachfront less than a mile away from where Madeleine was kidnapped. He apparently also fantasized about little girls in online chat rooms.

Brückner is currently serving time for drug trafficking.

Police have said that they assume Madeleine is dead, but her parents are still holding out hope.

Madeleine McCann would be 17 years old.
