Super Bowl surprises audiences by revealing the first-ever trailer of the upcoming musical movie Wicked, featuring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
Jon M. Chu is currently directing this anticipated movie musical. He also shared that they filmed it in two parts in order to adapt its story properly.
“As we prepared the production over the last year, it became impossible to wrestle the story of ‘Wicked’ into a single film without doing some real damage to it,”Chu in a previous interview in 2022
Part one will hit the theaters on Nov 27, 2024, while part two will follow suit on Nov 26, 2025.
Additionally, composer Stephen Schwartz also explained that the global phenomenal song “Defying Gravity” is one of the main reasons why they cut the film into two parts.
“We found it very difficult to get past ‘Defying Gravity’ without a break. That song is written specifically to bring a curtain down, and whatever scene to follow it without a break just seemed hugely anti-climactic.”Schwartz in a 2022 newsletter
Moreover, a talented cast will shower this movie musical:
|Elphaba Thropp, a.k.a Wicked Witch of the West
Starred in Broadway revival of The Color Purple
|Glinda Upland, a.k.a. Glinda the Good
Musical Video, Yes, And?
|The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
|The SpongeBob Musical: Live on Stage!
|Everything Everywhere All at Once
The Origins of Wicked
Despite the short glimpses of the upcoming Wicked film, fans are thrilled and can’t wait for its release. In the meantime, they could entertain themselves with the film’s original adaptation, the 2003 Broadway musical.
Furthermore, the musical was also based on an American novel written by Gregory Maguire in 1995 titled Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. It served as the prequel to the 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Super Bowl fans are extremely lucky right now as, on top of Wicked, they also saw the first trailer for Deadpool 3. It featured Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as its main duo.
