Dredge sales have reached over one million copies. Black Salt Games, the game developer, is elated with the surprise success. After all, their goal was to sell 100,000 copies. Following this success, they released a trailer for the first Dredge expansion, “The Pale Reach,” on November 16.

Dredge is a single-player fishing game. The premise sounds simple and chill: catch fish, dredge for treasures, sell your loot, then get some upgrades for your boat. However, further exploration will reveal horrors from the deep sea. Described as an eldritch adventure, players will find themselves discovering monsters that lurk in treacherous waters.

Game Developer interviewed game director Nadia Thorne and 3D artist Mikey Bastiadens at PAX Australia. When asked about the launch, they revealed, “We actually had our launch party on a boat, and we were just refreshing the page going, ‘Oh my god, oh my god.'” Team17 released Dredge on March 30, 2023. The game is available on XBOX, Playstation, Switch, and Steam.

The Pale Reach will take players into icy territory. Here, the horrors are encased in glaciers. The last crew that explored the area failed to return safely to the mainland, and it’s the player’s task to discover what happened. Again, Black Salt Games are the developers, while Team17 are the publishers.

Dredge is just one of the many successful projects of Team17. Notable games include Hell Let Loose, Golf With Your Friends, The Escapists, Worms, Blasphemous and Overcooked! They started in 1990 and have since made 120 titles. They evolved through the years. Now, they show no signs of slowing down.
