Skull and Bones had a choppy launch, with the community divided on the game. Some enjoyed the mechanics and grind of being a pirate with his ship. Meanwhile, others disliked how so many features were taken away from its predecessor, Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. With Season 1: Blighted Bastion ending on May 27, the player count has already dipped below 10 percent for the game before its end.

Can Ubisoft Save Skull And Bones?

There’s always a chance the game will make a remarkable comeback. Just look at No Man’s Sky. People hated it in 2016, yet the community touts it to be one of the best gaming comebacks in 2024. However, Ubisoft will have to commit a lot of time, money, and effort to the game. It’s admittedly difficult to bring it back considering its reputation was sulied by its launch.

Meanwhile, three months after its release, it lost 90 percent of its Xbox players and 87 percent of its PlayStation players.

Per Trueachievements, they claim that the game has steadily lost 90 percent of its players since February.

Meanwhile, True trophies claims Skull and Bones’ gamer population is 87 percent less than Sea of Thieves, its competition.

The company dubbed it as an AAAA game by Ubisoft. However, many aren’t picking it up due to the lack of features and grindy mechanics.

Ubisoft Has Its Roadmap Planned

Ubisoft promises at least four seasons for gamers still playing Skull and Bones. At the very least, there’ll be more content and narrative additions to the game for those who paid the hefty $70 price tag.

Hopefully it’ll bounce back from the rough waters it’s sailing right now as there are barely any pirate MMOs out there other than this and Sea of Thieves.
