Stellaris‘ risk of utilizing AI for their game might be a good gamble for the company. Moreover, it opens up an exciting avenue for future video games. However, AI will always have its pushback, mainly if it’s not utilized right.

Stellaris Uses An AI Voice For Its Big Bad AI Villain

Paradox might be in hot water for using AI. However, gamers are getting mad at them for absolutely the wrong reasons.

AI has recently earned a negative reputation in the community. Many are urging others to stop using it due to its infringement on artists’ works. However, Paradox knows the dilemma of using AI to plagiarize art, so they didn’t.

Instead, they used AI to create an AI-generated voice for a villain who is an AI in their universe. Not only does it make narrative sense, it’s also ethical. “Why?” you might ask. They contracted voice actors that they’re sampling for AI, gaining their consent. Moreover, these voice actors will receive compensation and royalty from these AI-generated lines.

Furthermore, they aren’t using this AI to replace their workforce. Most of the time, they use it to draw up concepts that the lead developers think of, which gives their art team an excellent vision for which to strive.

Stephen Muray, Stellaris’ game director, talks about how they’re masters of dystopian sci-fi and wouldn’t want to be in the same oppressive shoes they talk about.

The Possibilities Are Endless

Usually, AI is harmful to how the general community is utilizing it. However, it’s undeniable that it’ll help the gaming community in more ways than one. Using AI ethically can create more interactive stories and lessen workloads for development teams.

The community just needs to rein AI in to prevent any illegal and immoral acts from happening. Once gamers understand that, games can elevate to new heights with how dynamic and fun their stories, missions, and encounters will be with AI.

Do you think Stellaris is using AI ethically?
