Deltarune‘s progress throughout the years has been slow. However, that’s not necessarily bad, as the more time Toby Fox, its developer, gives the game, the better it will be. Nearly a decade after Fox’s hit release, Undertale, he’s looking to finish Chapter Four so that fans can play Chapter Three with it.

Deltarune’s Almost Six Years Old

The charming and pixelated game’s first chapter was released on Oct. 31, 2018. That’s almost six years ago, which is baffling. Worry not; the developers are still working hard to get the chapters out. There is no sign of burnout here so far!

In an X (formerly Twitter) post, he confirms the excellent progress of Chapter Four. However, he does remind fans that the release isn’t close yet. This is so that he doesn’t shatter the fans’ hearts. Moreover, he’s hired more to work on the game to help alleviate the burden from him.

This could be positive or negative. Having different developers working on the game can cut down on time and burnout. However, there’s also the danger of having differing tastes, which can be a difference-maker for meticulously made games like Undertale and Deltarune.

The Newsletter Details More Of The Progress

Fox sent out a newsletter with more information about their progress. Specifically, Fox finished most cutscenes and claims he only has to create a few more. Moreover, he says all of these cutscenes need more polish.

Meanwhile, the dev team has finished the attacks, but they still need to improve the bosses. They also need to make 10 more overworld maps while polishing up the others.

Lastly, he teases a gimmick that’ll show up in Chapter Four. Knowing Fox, this gimmick will be interesting and might add more replayability to the game, just like Undertale’s different gimmicks and timeline changes unique to each playthrough.

He also can’t give a release date even though the process is going smoothly. At the very least, he’s excited to release the game as soon as possible.
