Adams has expressed frustrations with the Jets’ organization and in the past, especially regarding contract negotiations. There has been speculation that Adams wanted out, especially leading up to the trade deadline last season. However, for a while, he voiced that he would not request a trade.
Today, though, Adams finally decided he’d had enough. First, the Jets’ safety commented on Instagram a long, frustrated rant. He declared, “I deserve to be paid but when I ask to be taking care of I’m ‘BEING THAT GUY’ huh?… Maybe it’s time to move on!”
Then, he reportedly asked to be traded, per ESPN’s Manish Mehta. Yet, the Jets currently have not granted him permission to look for a new team.
Adams even named seven teams he would “welcome a trade” to, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. The list includes the Ravens, Cowboys, Texans, Chiefs, Eagles, 49ers, and Seahawks.
The tense relationship between the two-time All-Pro and the Jets appears to be embarking on a steep decline. Clearly, he has reached a tipping point. However, it’s still unknown what caused him to finally give up on his career with the Jets. Details will likely emerge in the near future as Adams becomes subject to increased media scrutiny.
