The Brooklyn Nets add another former All-Star to their frontcourt. Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Aldridge decided to sign with the Brooklyn Nets. Aldridge and the Spurs agreed to abuyout on March 25th to allow Aldridge to latch on with a contender. It’s a confusing signing as he doesn’t fit a particular need for the Nets. He’s an offensive big man on a team full of offensive talent that needs defensive help.

There were reports that he was considering signing with the Miami Heat after the team announced his buyout. At least on the Heat, they need more of a scoring punch.

A Questionable Signing

Woj also added that Aldridge “is expected to see a significant amount of minutes.”

There is a reason why the Spurs agreed to part ways. They went on a winning streak when Aldridge went down with an injury. Jakob Poeltl started in his place and has shown he is one of the more underrated rim protectors in the league.

The bottom line is that it’s difficult to picture Aldridge contributing much to the Nets in the playoffs. They already have Blake Griffin, who provides more mobility and ball-handling. Nicholas Claxton is also a better defensive option since he can guard on the perimeter without giving up too much size. Griffin and Claxton should stack ahead on the bench unit, but instead, the Nets promised Aldridge a significant amount of minutes.

The Nets’ big rotation is something to watch out for. It will be concerning if the Nets decide to play some of the less capable defenders, such as Griffin and Aldridge, over Claxton come playoff time.
