After finishing 15th in the Eastern Conference in the 2020-21 NBA season, the Detroit Pistons needed a spark. Their dreams became a reality on Tuesday night.
The Pistons won the NBA Draft Lottery and will select first in the 2021 NBA Draft on July 29. With high anticipation, Detroit will presumably have the opportunity at Oklahoma State guard Cade Cunningham. If the pick is secured, this will mark the team’s first overall selection since picking Bob Lanier in 1970.
The top four picks will be selected by the Houston Rockets at number two, Cleveland Cavaliers at three, and fourth by the Toronto Raptors.

The Pistons were represented by NBA Champion and Hall of Fame elect Ben Wallace on the ESPN television broadcast. The four-time All-Star is the president of basketball operations of the Grand Rapids Drive of the NBA G League.
The NBA Draft Lottery odds played out expectedly. The Rockets, Pistons, and Magic had a 14% chance at the No. 1 pick. The three teams had a 52.1% chance of landing the top four – with two sticking to the odds.
The Raptors are back in the lottery, set to pick their highest pick since drafting first overall in 2006. Represented by guard Fred VanVleet, the Raptors have had the fourth pick twice before. Concluding the season 12th in the Eastern Conference, the team looks to bolster from the pick.
The Golden State Warriors, who had the lowest odds in the lottery, will have two picks in the top 14 of the draft. In hopes of returning back to full strength, after losing the NBA Play-In Tournament against the Los Angeles Lakers.
The draft’s prospects
The 2021 NBA Draft will feature top-notch talent across the board. The class features talent from the college level and the NBA G League.
The five draft picks should feature names such as Cunningham, USC forward/center Evan Mobley, NBA G League Ignite guard Jalen Green and Gonzaga guard Jalen Suggs.

First round selections
The 75th edition of the NBA Draft will be hosted at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The Washington Wizards, Thunder, and Memphis Grizzlies will choose after the top 14 selections as the draft stands. The Thunder and Rockets will have three picks in the top 30 after a haul of picks received by the trade.
