The Milwaukee Bucks have worked their way up this season’s playoffs and are looking to win their second championship after exactly 50 seasons. The team is now going to be playing in the Eastern Conference finals against the Atlanta Hawks. The series will kick off this Wednesday at 8:30 pm ET.
The last time the Bucks took home the NBA finals win was in 1971 with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Fast forward to 2021, and it marks fifty years since their last win. This next game will take place at the Fiserv forum Stadium, the first full stadium for Eastern Conference Finals after covid-19.
The Bucks have eliminated some monster teams so far. This includes sweeping the Miami Heat. The Heat beat the Bucks last year 4-1 in the series. However, they made a strong comeback which has allowed them to move into the Eastern Conference Finals. The team also managed to eliminate the Nets, who everyone thought would win this year. The Brooklyn nets also have star player Kevin Durant who performed exceptionally well this season.
Mike Budenholzer, current coach for the Bucks and two-time coach of the year, has been helping the team to advance this playoff season. The Bucks stand at a great advantage as Budenholzer also coached the Hawks back in 2015. The Hawks did advance to the Eastern Conference Finals that year but were eventually swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
He understands the plays, the other team’s strategies and player dynamics, and what it takes for a team to reach the Eastern Conference Finals. This will give the Milwaukee Bucks the knowledge they need to understand how to beat the Hawks.
Having Mike as a coach may be one of the team’s greatest assets alongside Giannis Antentokounmpo. This two-time Most Valued Player is one of three players in NBA history to win the Defensive Player of the Year and Most Valued Player title in the same season. The only other two players to do this has been the great Michael Jordan (1988) and the legendary Hakeem Olajuwon (1994).
Giannis is clearly headed for his first NBA championship and a ring. After the Miami Heat eliminated the Bucks in the 2019-2020 NBA playoffs, Giannis said on TNT,
I know what the goal is. Don’t call me MVP, don’t call me two times MVP until I’m a champion”Giannis Antetokounmpo
If Antentokounmpo can secure a ring, he will satisfy his hunger for winning as a player this season. Averaging 28.1 points this season, his performance has been exceptional. With a 31.8 point average performance during the Nets series, Giannis has been showing Milwaukee fans straight heat.
Antentokounmpo is currently in a five-year, 228 million dollar contract with the Bucks. However, he has been proving his dedication and loyalty to the team and fans since he said,
This is my home, this is my city..I’m blessed to be able to be a part of the Milwaukee Bucks for the next 5 years. Let’s make these years count. The show goes on, let’s get it. Heart and praying emoji.Giannis Antetokounmpo
Giannis is not the only player who has been an asset to the Milwaukee Bucks this season. The team has a new addition, Jrue Holiday. Holiday has the position of guard for the Bucks, increasing the team’s odds this playoff. This has been a great asset considering the absence of Dante DiVincenzo. Holiday joining the team has been great leverage in Giannis’s will to stay as he has come to win.
Another player bringing significant value to Milwaukee’s playoff run is Khris Middleton. He came off fearlessly in Game 7, where he hit a wide-range fadeaway for the final shot. This concluded the game with a score of 115-111. He scored 38 points in game six and averaged a total of 25.5 points during the elimination games.
With the Bucks’ great performance this playoff season, recognition has been coming from far and wide. Even legend player Charles Barkley had something to say about the team.
“Milwaukee Bucks are going to win the world championship”Charles Barkley on TNT
Barkley has been riding with the team since they entered the 2020-2021 NBA season. The Bucks’ potential is immense and will play out during the upcoming games that start June 23rd.
The Bucks did not come this far to lose and will most certainly bring their best foot forward. With the help of Giannis, Middleton, and Holiday, the team will surely put on a strong performance for the Eastern Conference Finals. Coach Mike Budenholzer will continue to lead the Milwaukee Bucks victory towards winning the Larry O’Brien trophy.
