Phoenix Suns’ point guard Chris Paul added another achievement to his hall of fame career. By defeating the Golden State Warriors, Paul has now led three NBA franchises to 17-game win streaks.

The Phoenix Suns’ 17-game win streak is now tied with the longest in their franchise history. The Suns can break the streak by defeating the Detroit Pistons and their highly anticipated rematch against the Warriors in San Francisco.

The Warriors and Suns battle was a matchup of the league’s top two teams. In addition to the Suns’ win streak, Golden State had won seven straight games. Phoenix prevailed despite losing their leading scorer Devin Booker to a left hamstring injury in the second quarter. Furthermore, their defense held Steph Curry to only 12 points on 4-12 shooting.

The Los Angeles Lakers own the NBA record with a 33-game win streak.

Chris Paul has also led the Los Angeles Clippers and Houston Rockets to a 17-game win streak. The 2012-2013 Clippers team, known as “Lob City,” featured high flyers Blake Griffin and Deandre Jordan. However, they lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Memphis Grizzlies.

The 2017-2018 Houston Rockets finished the year with the best overall record and No. 1 seed in the playoffs led by James Harden and Chris Paul. Unfortunately, Paul reinjured his hamstring, which took him off the board. The Golden State Warriors overcame a 3-1 deficit and defeated the Rockets in seven games.

An impressive achievement and career

Paul’s career has been stellar despite his playoff shortcomings and untimely injuries. He’s one of 11 active players who made the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team. CP3 also moved into third place on the all-time assists list.

What does this win streak mean, Chris Paul? The streak is fun, but Paul knows winning a championship is more important:

“Obviously, everyone knows the ultimate goal is to win a championship but if you don’t enjoy the small victories throughout the regular season then what are you doing? More than anything, we are having fun… We are going to keep taking it one game at a time and enjoy the moments because it’s all about the journey.”

The Milwaukee Bucks defeated Phoenix in the NBA Finals last year. Personal accolades aside, Chris Paul desperately wants to return to the finals, win a ring and complete his career.
