The Damian Lillard drama continues as the superstar takes to Twitter to defend his comments surrounding recent reports. The controversy stems from TrueHoop writer Henry Abbot claiming that Lillard was "willing to forgo paychecks to get to a title team, a report that Lillard has recently denied.
Meanwhile, Abbot took to Twitter to defend his comments, stating that he has "never published a made-up story and never will." Lillard had the following to say in response:
"Now ask yourself that same question about me. I’ve been transparent for a decade..I never denied where I stood following the season… don’t loop me in becuz of the state of the game right now. What you are reporting is simply not the facts bro. I’m the ultimate source."Damian Lilliard
The exchange continued, with Abbot warning Lillard to "be careful about calling him a liar. I take my job very seriously and do not lie." However, Lillard seemed to take exception to the tweet, responding with "Please be careful?" It appears Lillard doesn't take kindly to seemingly being threatened.
No trade request...yet
Lillard has been adamant that the only people he shares information with are his teammates. Despite rumors swirling about an impending trade request, Lillard has yet to officially make any such demand. Earlier this month, he stated that "There's a lot of things being said and words being put in my mouth -- and I haven't said anything. Around the same time last year, Lillard again repeated that his stance hadn't changed regarding a trade request.
Teammate C.J. McCollum took to Twitter to suggest that the pair would have to do an emergency press release to clear the air.
While it is doubtful Lillard may actually deny the money; there has been a fair amount of smoke regarding a trade request these past few weeks. It will be interesting to see if there is any substance behind these rumors. If there is, Lillard may have played his last game in a Portland Trailblazers jersey.
