Sacramento Kings guard De'Aaron Fox took to Instagram yesterday to share a photo of his physique. As the offseason persists, many players across the NBA use this time to get their bodies right for the coming season. However, Fox's post looks like it might have even piqued the league's attention. Just a day after sharing that post highlighting his development, the league randomly selected Fox for a drug test.
Fox's fiancee Recee Caldwell shared some screenshots on her Instagram story today. Of the two pictures, the first shared Fox's post from yesterday. The following was a screenshot from De'Aaron showing a text message from an NBA official. The text details Fox's 'random' selection for the drug test.
While Fox does appear to be filling out well as a young point guard, his physique doesn't look abnormal. Fox joins a list of other players the league has randomly selected to drug test after pictures of their muscle gains have gone viral. Earlier this offseason, Michael Carter-Williams was the most recent case before Fox. He had the same process happen to him this past July.
A few years ago, most famously was the case of Alex Caruso, who was in De'Aaron's same situation back in 2019. However, in the case of Caruso, he stated that the photos of him that went viral were actually photoshopped. Regardless, though, the NBA still randomly selected him for a drug test just a week after the photos circulated.
De'Aaron Fox is a budding young point guard in the NBA, one of few bright spots on the Sacramento Kings. Unfortunately, Sacramento's woes have continued, despite flashes of good since Fox joined the team. While Fox's gains are a reason for fans to get excited, it will take a lot more than some weight-room work for Fox and the Kings to reach their goals.
