According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo has won his second consecutive MVP award. He won the award last year in the 2018-2019 season. Recently, he earned the Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY) accolade for 2019-2020.
Giannis joins Michael Jordan (1988) and Hakeem Olajuwon (1994) as one of only three players in NBA history to win both the DPOY and the MVP in the same season.
Giannis averaged 29.5 points, 13.6 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game on 55% shooting in the 2019-2020 season. He led the Milwaukee Bucks to the number one seed in the Eastern Conference with a record of 56-17.
Giannis beat out James Harden and LeBron James, who were also favorites to win the award.
Unfortunately, the Bucks lost to the Miami Heat in the second round of the playoffs. Giannis missed the last game of the series due to an ankle injury suffered earlier in the round.
The only award missing for Giannis is winning an NBA championship. He will have to wait until next year for an opportunity to do so.
