Giannis Antetokounmpo put on one of the greatest close-out game performances in NBA Finals history. He dropped the first-ever 50 points, 10 rebounds, five-block game in the finals. Giannis silenced any doubters left after a performance like that and a Championship ring to boot. Among these critics was ESPN Analyst Kendrick Perkins. Perkins has gone on record calling Giannis the "Robin" to Khris Middleton's "Batman." Subsequently, Giannis's girlfriend Mariah Riddlesprigger fired back at Perk last night on Twitter.
Last night, Riddlesprigger took to Twitter to boast about her boyfriend's unstoppable performance in Game 6 of the NBA Finals. However, she closed out the message with the same closer Perkins uses in most of his hot takes. She caps off the Tweet with "CARRY ON...". Giannis seemed to appreciate his girlfriend having his back as well. He definitely had himself a Batman-like performance to close out the Finals. Accordingly so, Mariah made sure that Perkins understood loud and clear.
Perkins doubted Giannis's ability to close out games, saying that Middleton was his closer, hence the Batman/Robin metaphor. Moreover, he made comparisons of the pair to that of Shaq's dominance on the Lakers with Kobe Bryant as his closer. On "Get Up," Perkins dismissed Giannis as content with standing aside to let teammates Middleton and Jrue Holiday take over the offense. However, Giannis clearly proved Perkins wrong with a historic performance in Game Six.
Earlier in the night, though, Kendrick Perkins immediately paid Giannis his dues after sealing the Championship victory. Perk stated that Giannis had "the greatest performance in a close-out Finals game in NBA history." He bows down to Giannis in a tweet that is a complete inverse of his prior statements. Perkins likely wasn't the only doubter who was proved wrong with Giannis Finals MVP win. Giannis has accomplished just about everything he can in the NBA at just 26-years-old.
