James Harden claims he’s MVP after leading the Nets to a 113-111 win over the Pistons. Harden had 44 points, 14 rebounds, and 8 assists, leading his team in every statistical category.
Harden is nearly averaging a triple-double since joining Brooklyn. He currently leads the NBA in assists, and the Nets are sitting at second in the Eastern Conference.
Harden said, “I feel like I am the MVP” after his performance in Detroit. However, Harden is sitting at fourth in the MVP race, according to Basketball-Reference. He currently sits behind Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid, and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Nets haven’t had many games with its full trio of Harden, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Durant. Durant hasn’t played since mid-February, and Irving didn’t travel with the team to Detroit.
Harden has helped keep Brooklyn at the top of the conference. The Nets are expected to make a deep playoff run when they get all their stars back and healthy.
James Harden claims he’s MVP but it doesn’t look like he’ll climb past a player like Jokic in the MVP race.
Harden would have to continue putting up similar numbers as he did in Detroit if he expects to be in that conversation. However, if he continues to do so, and the Nets keep winning, it won’t be far-fetched to label Harden as this seasons’ MVP.
