Josh Giddey is going through the usual pre-draft process. Going for workouts with different teams and having interviews and sit-downs with various media outlets. It's all reaching a crescendo as the draft is just days away. This morning he sat down and talked about the confidence that seeing LaMelo Ball succeeding in the league gives him.

Giddey said that it's a little weird to look up to someone only in their first year in the league. Nonetheless, LaMelo's success gives Giddey a great blueprint. They both followed the same path, spending time in the NBL, before heading to the NBA via the draft.

"To see him, you know, come through the same pathway as me, and have the success he did in the NBL that translated pretty seamlessly to the NBA. It gives me a lot of confidence going forward because he did it, why can't I do it kind of mentality that I've got."Josh Giddey

LaMelo created a blueprint for other young players looking to make the NBA coming out of the NBL. Now Josh Giddey is trying to follow that same path. He's projected as a lottery pick in the current draft, sitting at 10th in NBADraft latest big board because of his unique skillset. His playmaking ability and guard skills at a larger size have garnered comparisons to LaMelo even Luka Doncic. Jumbo-sized playmakers are becoming more and more valuable in the modern NBA. Perfect evidence for that: Cade Cunningham, a jumbo-sized playmaker, is basically the unanimous number one pick this year.

Josh Giddey will bring a coveted talent to whichever team decides to draft him. As he said himself during his sit-down with Shams Charania of The Athletic, he'll also bring a lot of confidence in his ability to succeed at this level. Watching LaMelo has given him a blueprint of what it takes to succeed; now, he has to follow it.
