It is nearing the end of the NBA season, which means the offseason chatter is right around the corner. However, for some NBA stars, such as Damian Lillard, the rumors are already present. Some players take a silent approach when stories pop up, while others respond to the rumors head-on. Jusuf Nurkić chose the latter when he heard talks of Lillard potentially being on the move.

Y’all really about to believe a guy with a name Hnery abboott. Robot, laughing and cap emojis.

What a clown bruh. Keep capping and clown emoji.

These comments came before Lillard’s conversation with Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. Regardless, Nurkić likely wanted to protect the integrity of Lillard’s decision. The NBA is a league that runs off talks in the offseason. So players likely do not want to believe it until they hear it from a source they trust personally.

These tweets would not be the first time that Nurkić has spoken on a Damian Lillard departure. Earlier in the year, he said that he would want to leave the Portland Trail Blazers if the team traded Damian Lillard. This statement shows just how committed he is to having Lillard as his leader. He also mentions that, from his understanding, only the coaching position would change and that none of the current players are moving.

It would make sense why the Portland center would be hesitant to believe outside sources if the organization told him that internally. However, it would also not be the first time a team’s front office continues to pursue various player options after telling the outside world otherwise.

The confusion of deciding what sources are trustworthy is all part of the game in the offseason. Regardless, when dealing with players of Lillard’s caliber, it is always one of those “believe it when you see it” scenarios. Any team that acquires Lillard will be getting one of the best point guards in the game. That type of acquisition can launch almost any group into contention for an NBA title.
