Team USA will play against Spain in the Olympic Quarterfinals on Monday night. Team USA hasn't looked perfect so far in the tournament, but that hasn't affected Kendrick Perkin's confidence in their ability.
"I feel very confident that Team USA is going to walk into the game on Tuesday and put Spain across they lap."Kendrick Perkins
Team USA came out slow in the Olympics but has looked better recently. In their last game against the Czech Republic, they won handily, led by 50 combined points from Jayson Tatum and Kevin Durant. Tatum and Durant have proven themselves to be the #1 options on offense.
One potential problem the team was struggling with is the system they were using. They clearly had a hard time adapting to Coach Gregg Popovich's offensive and defensive schemes. But, in their recent game against the Czech Republic, they played more freely. As a result, Durant got going, and eventually, Tatum went off in the second half.
This switch in offense is what gives Perkins the most confidence. He doesn't think this team is suited to play in Popovich's system, and based off earlier results, he's probably right.
"Team USA has found their identity. And you know what their identity is? Is playing freely and hooping. Not playing the San Antonio Spurs system and letting Gregg Popovich control things."Kendrick Perkins
It's not hard to see that Team USA is the most talented in the Olympics. If they can play up to their abilities, a win against Spain is likely. Despite that, Spain isn't going to be an easy opponent. Ricky Rubio leads them, and together with the Gasol brothers, they have some formidable NBA vets. Spain has been a great international team recently and won't make things easy on the USA. It will take a concerted effort from team USA to move on to the semi-finals.
