Kevin Durant talks surpassing Carmelo’s USAB scoring record: “It’s still weird for me to do stuff like this because I play a team sport.”

USA Basketball has a new all-time leader in scoring. This past weekend, Kevin Durant surpassed Carmelo Anthony to take over the top spot. Durant accomplished this feat in Team USA's win over the Czech Republic on Saturday. In what was his highest scoring output of the tournament, Durant's 23 points helped charge the team to a dominant 119-84 victory. The New York Post's Brian Lewis shared a quote from Kevin Durant reflecting on this milestone.

Kevin Durant paid much respect to Carmelo Anthony, taking a likeness to his approach in these situations and trying to replicate it somehow. He also talked about what the milestone meant to him and highlighted his primary focus in international play.

Kevin Durant became the all-time leading scorer shouldn't come as much of a surprise for those familiar with his game. He has led the NBA in scoring four separate times. His knack for scoring emphasized his greatness on the court throughout his career. This new accolade adds to the long list of accomplishments that define Durant's professional career. He stands today as former league MVP and two-time NBA Finals MVP. Durant has also earned 11 all-star selections.

Next up for Team USA: 2020 Olympics

Team USA improved to a 2-1 record in the preliminary round with the win on Saturday. This slots them in second place in Group A behind Team France, who remain undefeated. With the quarterfinals set to begin, the tournament shifts to a single-game elimination format. Team USA will have their hands full as they will take on Team Spain for the right to advance to the semi-finals.
