The Golden State Warriors have begun the season like a house on fire, going 11-2 through their opening 13 games. Many say they have had a favorable schedule to start the season, but they opened the season by beating both Los Angeles teams. And during their current run of eight wins from their last ten games, they have blown out both the Atlanta Hawks & the Chicago Bulls. Klay Thompson has yet to take to the floor this season, but he had strong thoughts on Warriors doubters.

The 31-year-old has missed the last two NBA seasons. Klay missed the 2019/20 season due to a torn ACL and did not play last season due to an Achilles tendon injury. He looks set to return to the lineup before the end of 2021, but he hopes people keep doubting the team.

““I love it, I love it. I hope people keep doubting us, I saw somebody on the TV the other day talking about. The Warriors aren’t contenders because they’ve had a soft schedule. Buddy, we got the MVP, a defensive player of the year. That kind of disrespect bothers me. We have so many champions, guys who have done it in the highest pressure moments. And you’re still gonna question our ability? I love it. But whatever. That’s what talking heads are paid to do.”

‘The MVP’ Klay mentioned is Stephen Curry, the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player is looking to bag his third award, having started the season lights out. Curry averages 28.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game while shooting an effective field goal percentage of 56.8. He’s already had two 40 point games and a 50/7/10 outpouring against the Hawks.

Draymond Green is looking like one of the best defenders in the league, and Jordan Poole is likely to be in the Most Improved Player conversation. Klay knows his return will only improve things.

“You see what we’re doing to start this year? And I’m not even out there yet. I’m just so excited.”

The Warriors face the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday night in what already feels like an NBA Finals preview. Many will view this game as Golden State’s first real test. But they lead the league in defensive rating (99.6), they are second in offensive rating (112.6), and lead the way in net rating (+12.9). Many don’t want to believe the Warriors are back, but all signs point towards a successful 2022 season.
