In 2019, Kyrie Irving chose Roc Nation Sports as his new representation. Now just two years later, it appears the Brooklyn Nets guard is ready to move on from the relationship.
"I have nothing to do with the design or marketing of the upcoming Kyrie 8, [in my opinion] these are trash! I have Absolutely nothing to do with them! Nike plans to release it without my okay regardless of what I say, so I apologize in advance to all of my sneaker heads and true supporters of the #KAI11 brand."
Renowned recording artist Jay-Z founded Roc Nation Sports in 2013 as an extension of his record label. The agency will have ten days to attempt to salvage the relationship. In addition to Irving, LaMelo Ball, Danny Green, and Chris Boucher are some notable NBA players currently signed to Roc Nation Sports.
Dispute with Nike
The split may have something to do with the miscommunication between Irving and Nike. Irving will now move on to his third agency in the same amount of years. This news is especially notable as Irving has a player option for the 2022/2023 season. Superstar teammates Kevin Durant and James Harden also have player options for the same season. With new representation, Irving may consider opting out and testing the free agency market.
Kyrie Irving is coming off another impressive season. He earned the seventh All-Star appearance of his career. Irving posted averages of 26.9 points, 6 assists, and 4.8 rebounds per game. Unfortunately, his season was cut short after he suffered an ankle injury in the postseason's second round. Irving and the Nets will have another shot at the championship this upcoming season.
