DENVER, CO - NOVEMBER 14: Kyrie Irving (11) of the Brooklyn Nets takes the court against the Denver Nuggets during the first quarter on Thursday, November 14, 2019

Nets guard Kyrie Irving will be putting his time away from basketball to good use, recent news shows. Irving, along with Common are coming together to produce a TV special calling for action for Breonna Taylor.

If you haven’t already heard about it, here are the basic facts:

On March 13th, Louisville Police Officers entered the home of Breonna Taylor using a battering ram. Taylor and her boyfriend got into a confrontation with the police officers. Then, the police shot and killed Taylor.

None of the involved officers have faced any criminal charges. This is why there has been so much outrage regarding Taylor’s case. Not only was she murdered, but the killers got away with it entirely.

As for Kyrie Irving, he has voiced clearly that these things are more important than the NBA. He even was quoted on a call with the NBA saying, “I’m willing to give up everything I have (for social reform).”

Irving seems completely uninterested in lacing up anytime soon. He has always been outspoken about social justice, but now it appears he is going to try to help more than ever.
