The Los Angeles Lakers will don their Black Mamba jerseys for game 5 of the NBA Finals on Friday, according to Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press.
The Lakers are currently undefeated when wearing the Bryant designed threads. Most recently, they defeated the Heat in game 2 of the Finals, 124-114. Los Angeles is scheduled to wear them again in game 7 — if the series makes it that far.
Players on the Lakers have been vocal about the emboldening presence of the snakeskin jerseys. The late, great Kobe Bryant designed the uniforms. Moreover, the team feels like it’s an honorable gesture to win while wearing jerseys fashioned by the Black Mamba himself.
“It’s always special to be able to represent someone who meant so much, not only to the game, but obviously to the Lakers organization for 20-plus years,” James said after Game 2 against the Heat. “For us to honour him being on the floor, this is what it’s all about.”
Following his game-winner against the Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals, Davis lauded his team’s reluctance to lose in those jerseys as equivalent to his buzzer-beater.
The Lakers will seek to honour Bryant once again in game 5. Hopefully hoisting the Larry O’Brian trophy while wearing the Mamba jerseys.
