LaMelo Ball announced via his Instagram account he'll change his jersey number, allowing Lonzo to wear the number 2. The Charlotte Hornets rookie used his Instagram account to post a story announcing he'll no longer wear the number 2. He was also teasing a possible move that would send Lonzo to Charlotte by tagging him.

Lonzo's free agency

Lonzo Ball currently plays on the New Orleans Pelicans, wearing the number 2 as well. However, Lonzo will be a free agent this offseason, opening up rumors about what will happen.

Previously, during the trade deadline, multiple trades surrounded Lonzo's name since last season. He and the New Orleans Pelicans were not enjoying success, missing the NBA Playoffs and the Play-in tournament.

According to The Athletic, Lonzo might receive a four-year $100 million contract. Despite this, the Pelicans can match any offer he receives due to being a restricted free agent.

"Something in the range of four years and $100 million seems a more likely ceiling given the offensive concerns; that’s already spendy for somebody who can be the third-best player on a good team but probably no more than that."John Hollinger via The Athletic

There are many teams to move for Lonzo, such as the Los Angeles Lakers, the New York Knicks, the Dallas Mavericks, the Chicago Bulls, the Atlanta Hawks, the Miami Heat, the Boston Celtics, the Toronto Raptors, and the Charlotte Hornets.

It's not surprising that teams are gaining interest in Lonzo, as the 23-year old improves every year. In 2020, Lonzo averaged 11.8 points per game on 0,40 Field Goal %. While in 2021, Lonzo averaged 14.6 points per game on 0,41 Field Goal %.

With LaMelo's help, his brother could leave New Orleans for Charlotte in a deal that can help them make the next leap and reach the NBA Play-in tournament or even the NBA Playoffs next year.
