The NBA has begun announcing the rosters for the 2021 All-Star game and announced the starters on Thursday. While there’s no wild surprise, there’s some debate about one starting spot.
Eastern Conference
Team Captain: Kevin Durant, Brooklyn Nets
Bradley Beal finally starts in the backcourt while having an amazing season. He’s joined by Kyrie Irving, who has the lowest ranking media vote on this list. Joel Embiid also returns from an injury to make his fourth appearance and is joined by Giannis Antetokounmpo in the frontcourt, who’s having a dominant season.
Western Conference
Team Captain: LeBron James, Los Angeles Lakers
Making his seventh All-Star appearance after returning from an injury is Stephen Curry. Joining him in the backcourt is Luka Doncic, who starts for the second year in a row. Nikola Jokic makes his third appearance while putting up MVP numbers, and Kawhi Leonard starts with him in the Front Court for his fifth appearance.
However, many fans and analysts believe Damian Lillard should be starting. Doncic and Lillard tied in media and player ranking, where Luka won the nomination because of the fan vote. This has left a lot of people wondering whether the All-Star nomination process needs a change.
