Lou Williams had some encouraging words to say about his Atlanta Hawks teammate Trae Young. When asked about him by Sarah Spencer of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Williams spoke glowingly about Young’s impact on the Hawks organization and the city itself.

“He’s very talented. He has the opportunity to lead a franchise. He’s very young. There’s nothing not to be excited about and not to embrace … he’s been a hero in Atlanta.”

Trae Young led the Hawks to one of their most successful seasons since moving to Atlanta. With playoff series wins over the New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers, they made their way to the Eastern Conference Finals. While they did bow out to the eventual champion Milwaukee Bucks, their successes would not go unnoticed. Especially in Young’s case, 2021 proved to be a coming-out party for this upstart group.

As the new season nears, Atlanta comes in with great hopes to build off of their success from a few months ago. With Trae Young continuing to ascend and players like Lou Williams there to compliment him, the Hawks appear to have a great deal going in their favor.

Changing Atlanta’s sports woes

Atlanta, Georgia, has seen its fair share of letdowns. It has become one of the more snake-bitten cities in major sports leagues. None of the Braves, Hawks, or Falcons have seen championship success in this century. Though they’ve each come close on some occasions, never has it worked out in their favor.

With a talent like Trae Young, the Hawks could eventually change such fortunes for the city at large. He has become one of the headlining players of the NBA’s younger generation and has his sights set on becoming an all-time great. With that, he may turn Atlanta into a top location for other stars across the association. If last season is anything to go by, Atlanta may not be so far from the promised land after all.
