Earlier this morning, Maria Taylor made headlines after the announcement that she is leaving the ESPN network. Taylor seems to be leaving due to diversity issues that were uncovered earlier this month. Taylor has been at ESPN since 2014 and was a major part of the network. She was one of the hosts of the popular show NBA Countdown with Jalen Rose. She was also a great college sports analyst and reporter.

Maria's remarkavke success speaks directly to her abilities and work ethic. There is no doubt we will miss Maria, but we remain determined to continue to build a deep and skilled talent roster that thouroughly reflects the atheltes we cover and the fans we serve. While she chose to pursue a new opportunity, we are proud of the work we've done together.Jimmy Pitaro

Taylor leaving due to diversity issues

Before Taylor left ESPN, she was a major controversy due to diversity issues at the network. The controversy was due to a recording of Rachel Nichols being leaked about Maria Taylor. In the recording, Rachel Nichols said this:

"If you need to give her more things to do because you’re feeling pressure about your crappy, longtime record on diversity, which, by the way, I know personally from the female side of it. Go for it, just find it somewhere else, you’re not going to find it with me."Rachel Nichols

These accusations that Taylor was promoted due to her race put Nichols under fire. The statement by Nichols seems to be the premise of why Taylor has decided to part ways with the network.

Looking to the future

According to multiple reports, Taylor seems to be heading to NBC and be part of their crew to cover the 2020 Summer Olympics. After deciding to leave ESPN, she also released a statement.

"So thankful to Jimmy and all of my great teammates and friends at the SEC Network, College GameDay, Women’s and Men’s college basketball, and the NBA Countdown family — the people who believed in me, encouraged me, pushed me, and lifted me up.  Words are inadequate to express my boundless appreciation, and I hope to make them proud."Maria Taylor

As Taylor leaves ESPN due to these diversity issues, she will be sure to impact whatever network she goes to. ESPN seems to be just the beginning of her career.
