Last night the 2021 NBA draft took place in the Barclays Center. Like past NBA drafts, audience eyes are likely most intrigued by the top picks in the class. However, some NBA players noticed some exciting storylines that happened outside of the front of the draft. Trae Young and Ja Morant both had comments for selections that stuck out to them among the rest.

Trae Young comments on his Atlanta Hawks selecting Sharife Cooper
Ja Morant shows his excitement for Jalen Green and Josh Christopher being reunited on the Houston Rockets.

Sharife Cooper lands in Atlanta

Of all the picks, one appealing storyline here is the Atlanta Hawks selecting Sharife Cooper. Despite being born in New Jersey, Sharife Cooper spent most of his young basketball days in Georgia. While in Georgia, he played for McEachern High School. While playing for McEachern, Cooper was truly dominant. Following that, when it came to his college decision, he would stay in the south and attend Auburn University to continue his basketball pursuit. Additionally, his roots in the southern states stayed true when he got drafted by the Atlanta Hawks.

Like Trae Young, he is a more undersized guard. Luckily for Cooper, he has one of the best mentors in the game regarding that aspect. Young showed his excitement for the pick via Twitter. The Atlanta star knows what he can provide to Cooper and what Cooper can provide to the team. When it comes to physical size in the NBA, these two will look to prove doubters wrong together in the future.

AAU teammates turned NBA players

Jalen Green and Josh Christopher were both selected by the Houston Rockets on Thursday night. However, they are no strangers to playing basketball together. During a time in AAU, Green and Christopher teamed up to put on a show. In the summer of 2019, it seemed that these two were the center of anything viral in the AAU circuit. They even showed off their talents in front of LeBron James. These two guards are an exciting pairing, and NBA players like Morant understand what this kind of hype means for the league.
