Players Allowed to Opt out of NBA Restart in Orlando

The newest details regarding the restart of the NBA season involve a “faction” of players deciding whether playing in a bubble is a quality idea or not, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Wojnarowski added that there should be a provision in place. This would be precluding any repercussions for players choosing not to play. Albeit, players would be subject to losing a portion of their salary for games missed.

The risk of COVID-19 is one of the primary concerns among players. Given that Florida has suffered from an increase in cases over the past couple of weeks, the fear is warranted.

The NBA and NBPA are nearing completion on items needed to reach a final agreement on parameters of a return-to-play, sources said. Some players with hesitation have been discussing a number of issues on return, including family concerns, COVID-19, social justice, and more.

Provided that infection rates remain stable, the NBA and NBPA are close to finalizing an agreement on the framework for a restart plan.
