Last week, the Los Angeles Lakers brought in former all-star Isaiah Thomas on a ten-day contract. The signing came in the wake of a COVID-19 outbreak on the team and their continued struggles on the season. They stood with a 16-13 record at the time but have unfortunately lost four straight since bringing Thomas aboard. Statmuse shared this note on Twitter after the Lakers lost their third game.
“The Lakers are 0-3 since signing Isaiah Thomas.”
@Statmuse
Utah Jazz forward Rudy Gay and Silver Screen and Roll editor Harrison Faigen came to Thomas’ defense. Their responses suggest that Thomas’ presence has little to do with the Lakers’ current losing streak.
“This is bullshit”
Rudy Gay
“In just as related news, the Lakers are also 0-3 since “Spider-Man No Way Home” came out.”
Harrison Faigen
There is no questioning that the Lakers have hit a rough patch, but Rudy Gay, alongside many others, would not think to pin any of it on Isaiah Thomas. While he has his share of performance flaws, it would be rare for one’s arrival to create so many problems in such little time.
The Lakers woes continue
The Lakers have failed to secure another victory following their overtime win over the Dallas Mavericks. Their latest losing streak includes losses to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Chicago Bulls, the Western Conference-leading Phoenix Suns, and the San Antonio Spurs. In their slump, the Lakers have lost by an average margin of 17.25 points a game.
Some have already chimed in on what the problem is, but the biggest issue for them is figuring out how to escape it. The Lakers have not looked like championship contenders all season with or without Isaiah Thomas. Considering their talent, this has become a surprising result from where many of us stand.
As they look for answers, the group prepares for their next matchup. In their first official game inside Crypto.com Arena, the Lakers will host the East-leading Brooklyn Nets on Christmas Day.
