The Milwaukee Bucks will not add All-NBA guard Chris Paul to their roster this offseason, per Eric Nehm and Sam Amick of The Athletic. Paul’s contract is reportedly far too daunting and will impede on their future.

“As for the reported prospect of the Bucks pursuing Oklahoma City point guard Chris Paul as a possible solution to the roster deficiencies, sources with knowledge of ownership’s thinking said it is highly unlikely. The cost of bringing him aboard — Paul is owed $41.3 million next season and has a player option worth $44.2 million in the 2021-22 campaign — and the potential difficulty of bringing Paul onto a roster already led by a strong personality in Antetokounmpo seems to limit the chances of the Bucks moving to pair the two All-Stars.  All indications are that the Bucks would rather look elsewhere,” according to The Athletic.

Paul was statistically the most clutch player in the league this year. However, $44 million is an intimidating amount for a player turning 36-years-old next season. The Bucks are going to have to find themselves another All-Star to pair with the reigning MVP.

Antetokounmpo recently had a three-hour meeting with Bucks management to discuss the future of the organization.

Milwaukee’s Postseason Struggles

For the second straight season, Milwaukee has failed to earn a Finals berth, despite Antetokounmpo playing at an MVP level, and the team steamrolling through the regular season. Their recent blunder in the playoffs came at the hands of the Heat, who gentlemen swept them. This has Bucks fans in trepidation at the possibility of losing their franchise player.

The Bucks will look to add a bonafide closer to their roster come next season. If not, it could mean the end of the Greek Freak era in Milwaukee as we know it.
