To commemorate their 75th anniversary, the NBA revealed a list including its greatest players. The 75th Anniversary team includes standout performers that forever changed the game. Among the biggest names in the group stand Michael Jordan, Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Larry Bird, Bill Russell, the late-great Kobe Bryant, and many others. Modern-day team members include reigning Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and more.

It all goes to show just how much talent has graced the hardwood in all these years. Moving forward, the list of players who will contend for a spot can only expand. This should come not only due to the NBA’s lifespan but also its expanding popularity over time. With the league widening its reach worldwide, the depth of talent coming in each season should only grow. You can view the NBA 75th Anniversary Team complete list on the NBA site.

Reactions to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary team selections

While the 75th Anniversary team had a slew of all-time greats, a few players remained left out of the group. Among those players included Lakers big man Dwight Howard, and Warriors guard Klay Thompson, who shared his disappointment with the results on social media.

“Maybe I’m just naive in my ability to play basketball, but in my head I’m top 75 all time.”

Klay Thompson

While he did not respond to his omission from the list, many came to the defense of Dwight Howard, arguing that he too deserved a spot. There was also an exchange on Twitter about Kyrie Irving being left off the list between Kevin Durant and a fan. A few members of the team seemed surprised at their inclusion. Both James Harden and Reggie Miller were in awe after hearing about their selections.

What this list will look like years down the road, we can’t know right now. But in the meantime, it allows us to celebrate those that molded the NBA into what it has become today.

  1. […] In commemoration of the NBA’s 75th anniversary, a panel of voters decided on the top 75 players in league history. Just as is the case with any list, the chosen players whirled plenty of controversy from fans and players alike. While the players who joined the list already received recognition, it’s fitting to recognize those who wrongfully missed out on the team. These are the biggest snubs from the NBA’s top 75 list. […]
