Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse has signed a multi-year extension with the team, Shams Charania reports. Further details on the deal are yet to be announced.
The signing comes as no surprise.
In his first year as head coach in 2018-19, Nurse led the Toronto Raptors to the franchise’s first NBA championship. He followed up with another successful campaign this season, going an impressive 53-19 in the regular season before losing to the Boston Celtics in seven games in the second round of the NBA Playoffs. Nurse’s stellar coaching earned him the Coach of the Year Award for 2020.
Raptors president Masai Ujiri — who promoted Nurse to the head coaching position in 2018 — said of Nurse:
“Our confidence in Nick just continues to grow, and part of that comes from what we’ve experienced together…Nick has proved that he can coach on the court and lead in life, and we’re looking forward to accomplishing great things in the future.”

The Raptors’ future was already bright to begin with. Now that Nurse is committed to Toronto for the long term, that future only got brighter.
