During a series of tweets, Porter Jr. sympathized with George Floyd, before calling for prayer for the police officers involved in his death.
Soon after, several NBA players responded to MPJ:
Clippers’ guard Lou Williams replied with a simple “Na.”
76ers Forward Mike Scott said, “hell [naw].”
Blazers Forward Maurice Harkless also showed his disappointment.
While retired player Stephen Jackson told Michael Porter Jr. to “sit [his] young privileged a** down” and to “pick a side.”
Porter Jr. grew up as a bi-racial Christian, raised by his black father and his white mother. His tweets embraced his Christian values, asking for forgiveness against wrongdoers.
Aside from the players, many fans supported Porter Jr., while many others disagreed, tagging his statement as “tone-deaf.”
Minneapolis’ police Chief terminated the four officers involved in the incident. Going forward, the FBI has begun investigations for further details on the death of George Floyd.
