The Golden State Warriors came away with another victory on Friday night, topping the Portland Trail Blazers 118-103. The win improves their record to a league-best 17-2 on the year. Despite the lure of another successful outing, the most significant part of the night came after the game ended. A visibly emotional Klay Thompson stayed seated on the sidelines.
He kept himself in place for about 35 minutes before moving. Watching on, one can imagine the former all-star’s emotions as he has yet to touch the floor in the NBA for over two years. He suffered a torn ACL in Game Six of the 2019 NBA finals against the Toronto Raptors, which forced him to miss the entire 2019-20 season. Amidst his recovery efforts, he suffered a setback, tearing his achilies, ending his 2020-21 campaign.
The Warriors’ star is surely treading with much anticipation as we inch closer to his return. Per sources, Klay Thompson’s return date could be slated for late December.
Steve Kerr and Draymond Green react
Regarding Klay Thompson, his team had been with him the entire way throughout his rehabilitation. Reflecting on his journey, Draymond Green spoke on how he saw it all and what he sees in Klay coming out of it.
Hes right there. Hes right there, getting towards the end of the road or beginning of the road, however you choose to look at it. You know, he has these days from time to time. I understand it as far as I can understand without going through it. I dont know many people that love basketball the way Klay loves basketball. That loves competing the way he loves competing.Draymond Green
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr also chimed in on the topic. He discussed his team’s success as well as how he reflected on Klay Thompson’s situation.
“The good news is he is nearing the finish line on this. But he can’t help but stop and think about how much he’s lost the last couple of years, just on a personal level. He loves the game so much and not being able to play, not really being able to be a part of the team the way he wants to, it’s been pretty emotional for him.”Steve Kerr
As both coach Kerr and Draymond Green alluded to, we can begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel here. The road has stretched far and wide for Klay Thompson in the past two years. Hopefully, his wait will come to an indefinite halt soon.
