Anthony Davis confirms that the $500K per player cash prize drives the Los Angeles Lakers‘ tournament run. They clinched their latest win against the Memphis Grizzlies with a blowout of 134-107. The team is currently on a 2-0 run and is looking to play against the Portland Trail Blazers for their third In-Season Tournament win.

How Big Is $500K To An Average NBA Player?

The $500K pot seems like a drop in the bucket for players like LeBron James and Stephen Curry. However, they’re not the only players on the team, and the incentive seems to be working.

Dave McMenamin, NBA reporter for ESPN, confirms this with the face of the team.

11 of the 17 players on the team bring in below $10M a year. James is the highest at an annual $47M.

Furthermore, an additional $500K would be helpful to many players on the team. If you’re making millions a year, half a million still helps cover the costs of a luxury life.

Davis even confirms by saying $500K is a good incentive. Despite making $40M a year, he wouldn’t mind an extra half a million in his bank.

However, they might be taking it too seriously, with a fight blowing up between the Lakers and Grizzlies in just the first quarter.

The In-Season Tournament might be pushing the players too far, as this isn’t the only fight that happened earlier today.

Anthony Davis And The Lakers Are Putting The Work In

The team saw a rocky start with a 3-5 standing, but they’ve recently turned it around. They won their last three matches, two of which were In-Season Tournament games. Davis is averaging 22.3 points, with 11.7 rebounds in their last three games.

This shows with their latest game against the Grizzlies which ended in a landslide victory of 134-107. This puts the Lakers at a decent 6-5 standing.
