Ben Simmons’ unhappiness in Philadelphia has been well-documented. After the 76ers lost to the Atlanta Hawks in the 2nd round of the playoffs last season, the All-Star has been adamant about his departure. Simmons’ desire to leave Philly has caught the ire of a former sixer. NBA Hall of Famer and ‘Inside the NBA’ co-host Charles Barkley recently spoke out on Ben Simmons’ situation in Philadelphia.

“I dont know why Ben got mad at that sh, to be honest with you, if youre making $40 million a year and people are telling you to get better in basketball, you should get better in basketball.

Barkley is referencing Simmons being reportedly upset with head coach Doc Rivers after he stated he didn’t know if the Sixers could win a title with Simmons at point guard. Superstar teammate Joel Embiid shared the same sentiment. Citing a play where Simmons turned down an open dunk as the turning point in game seven against the Hawks.

Simmons’ performance against the Hawks and his trade request has also led the fans of Philadelphia to turn on him.

Last Month, Charles Barkley’s fellow ‘Inside the NBA’ co-host Shaquille O’Neal also voiced his displeasure of how Simmons and his team have handled this trade request.

Will the 76ers trade Ben Simmons?

The Philadelphia 76ers have shown no indication that they are ready to trade Ben Simmons. Despite his unhappiness, they are not going to move Simmons for the sake of moving him. According to general manager Daryl Morey, the team won’t trade the star for role players. They will only move Simmons for an impact player in return. With Simmons being under contract for the next four years, Morey is not ruling out the possibility of this being a long process.

“This could be four years. We have to get back either Ben Simmons playing well for us, who helps us win the championship, or we have to get back a difference maker for Ben Simmons.”

With that mindset, it’s hard to see the Sixers trading Simmons anytime soon. With Simmons recently returning to the Sixers, it seems he will play for the team eventually when he’s ready. However, it’ll be interesting to see Simmons’ chemistry with his teammates and coaching staff when he is back.
