Chris Paul enhanced his Hall of Fame resume in the Phoenix Suns win over the New Orleans Pelicans. The point guard moved into third place on the NBA’s all-time assists list. He passed both Mark Jackson and Steve Nash on the same night in the 112-100 win.

Paul dished out 18 assists in the victory, bringing his career total to 10,346. He currently sits just over 1700 assists shy of Jason Kidd, who is second. A long shot given Paul is 36 and on the ladder half of his career. First place belongs to John Stockton. Whose place may never be taken as he is over 5000 assists clear of Paul at 15,806

Chris Paul has proven to be one of the best team leaders over his now 17-year career. He has led the NBA in assists four times and is leading the league this year, living up to his nickname, the “point god.”

Chris Paul’s statistical output over his career doesn’t just end at assists. He’s also fifth on the all-time steals list.

Whenever CP3 decides to retire, he is a sure-fire first-ballot Hall of Famer. However, the one accolade that has eluded him to this point is a championship. He and the Phoenix Suns are coming off an NBA Finals appearance in which they lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in 6 games. He also made the conference finals in 2018 with the Houston Rockets, where a hamstring injury robbed him of playing in games six and seven against the Warriors.

So far this season, Paul’s Suns are 3-3. They’ve been quite disappointing despite last year’s success. They’re ranked 18th in points per game and 19th in defensive rating. Superstar scorer Devin Booker has also been in a slump, shooting 40% from the floor to start the season.

However, with a lot of season left to play and the continuity they have, the Suns should be just fine. They will look to redeem last year’s Finals loss by bringing a championship to the Valley by season’s end.
