The Clippers� embarrassing choke job capped off by last night�s loss was something special to watch. For the Clippers and their fans, it marked yet another year of disappointment, but for many others, it was hilarious. No one enjoyed it more than Portland Trail Blazers guards Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum, who exploded on Twitter, along with millions of other users.
Lillard and McCollum have a bitter history with the Clippers and some of their players. Earlier in a regular-season bubble game against the Clippers, Lillard surprisingly missed two straight free throws that essentially lost Portland the game. Patrick Beverley and Paul George let him hear it from the Clippers’ bench, mocking Lillard�s signature �Dame Time� celebration. They later commented on an Instagram post related to the situation, fueling the feud even more.
Lillard and George�s beef started before that, however. Lillard famously hit a game-winner in George�s face in the 2019 playoffs that eliminated George�s Thunder in the first round. George responded after the game, saying that the game-winner taken from the logo was �a bad shot.�
So as one would expect, Lillard and McCollum weren’t silent on the Clippers’ loss.
Lillard poked fun at Beverley�s aforementioned Instagram comment that read “Cancun on 3.”
He also responded to a tweet that jokingly asked him if a bricked 3-pointer off the side of the backboard by Paul George was a ‘good shot.’ Of course, this was a reference to George’s reaction to Lillard’s 2019 game-winner.
McCollum was even more ruthless than his teammate and went on for quite some time.
He ended it with arguably the best tweet of the night.
The Twitter reactions from Lillard and McCollum were almost as entertaining as the game that preceded it, and it’s what makes the NBA exciting to follow, on and off the court.
