Tyrese Haliburton had a game-finishing three that gave him enough confidence to do the “Dame Time” celebration against Damian Lillard in their In-Season Tournament clash. However, the latter didn’t take this as a slight against him. Contrarily, he thinks it’s a kind of acknowledgment of how well he plays.
Damian Lillard Thinks It’s A Sign Of Respect From Tyrese Haliburton
Lillard doesn’t think of the one-time All-Star’s celebration as an insult. Instead, he responds with a very down-to-earth answer.
When asked how he feels when younger players mimic him, he answers that one must be prepared to receive what they dish out. Many players take the insults they give out, but the 33-year-old isn’t one of them.
It’s a respectable standpoint, especially knowing how many times Lillard does his signature celebration against other players.
“I learned as a kid when you dish it out, you gotta be willing to take it. For as many times I’ve done it to people, I can’t be upset when somebody else does it.”Damian Lillard told reporters afer the game
Furthermore, he even thinks it’s a sign of respect and acknowledgment whenever players copy him.
Knowing the “Dame Time” celebration and its meaning is one way of acknowledging the 33-year-old’s history.
Recognizing it’s a clutch celebration isn’t uncommon, but it still means you know his name and celebration enough to know when to use it.
“I think that’s also a sign of respect and acknowledgement for knowing my history and knowing what I do. I didn’t mind it.”Damian Lillard
There Were No Hard Feelings
This moment reminds the former Portland Trail Blazer to remain humble during victories. That’s because you’ll never know when the day will change and the tables turn.
“It’s important to be careful and to be humble when you having your moments ’cause you just never know how the tables turn and when they gonna turn.”Damian Lillard
Ultimately, it didn’t affect the Milwaukee Buck, and they parted respectably.
“I respected it. We shook hands after the game and I wasn’t moved by it, left or right.”Damian Lillard
Both players put on quite the show during the Bucks-Indiana Pacers game. Lillard put in 24 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
However, it wasn’t enough to beat the Pacers, especially with Haliburton’s help. He put in 27 points, seven rebounds, and 15 assists with no turnovers.
