While the Los Angeles Lakers fought hard, they ultimately lost 4-1 against the Denver Nuggets. Now, the historic franchise will have to shift its focus toward next season and the future at large.

After a highly criticized season for head coach Darvin Ham, all signs lead to him being fired in the foreseeable future.

“The Lakers’ unflattering finish leaves Ham’s future as head coach in serious peril, multiple league and team sources tell The Athletic, with some stakeholders indicating it’s highly unlikely he’ll return. The plan is to reassess everything that went wrong in the coming days before making a final decision.”

Shams Charania, Sam Amick, and Jovan Buha reported for The Athletic

The Lakers went 47-35 this regular season and never quite looked like the championship contender that fans around the NBA expected.

Whenever a team fails to meet expectations, the head coach is normally the scapegoat for the problems. This sadly has become a trend across professional sports in general. As things stand with the Lakers organization, there is no reason to expect this to be any different.

The biggest offseason question mark for the team will center around LeBron James’ desire to return or not. Regardless, it feels very likely that Ham will be moving on to the next chapter of his career after this season.

“If you’re coaching a team and one of your starters is like ten games in a row, just s**tting the bed, what are you going to do?”

The Nuggets have been a thorn in the team’s side for the last few years. In order to win another championship, they will have to evaluate every outcome to figure out how they can come out on top.
