The Chicago Bulls seem to be a team nearing a new era. The team has officially made it clear that they are open to trading away two-time All-Star Zach LaVine this year.
Before committing to the franchise, DeMar DeRozan allegedly wants to see where the organization is headed. The Athletic’s Shams Charania discussed how the Bulls’ future moves could impact DeRozan.
“The Bulls and DeRozan have discussed an extension, but the sides remain apart on years and salary, and the 34-year-old DeRozan wants to see where the team goes before committing to a return.”

DeRozan being hesitant to stay in Chicago makes plenty of sense. At 34 years old, DeRozan likely wouldn’t be interested in spending his final years in a rebuild. The Bulls haven’t quite been able to put everything together so far in their last few years.
Lonzo Ball is still working on coming back from his injury, Lavine will be shopped around, and both Nikola Vucevic and Alex Caruso will have foggy futures with the team. DeRozan is a player who would have a market if he were to ask for a trade.
DeRozan will have the opportunity to determine how he wants his final years in the league to play out. He has the opportunity either via trade or free agency to start the next chapter of his career. However, the Bulls are not a team to be ruled out completely from the race.
DeRozan is averaging 21.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists to start the season. The Bulls have the opportunity to completely gut their roster this year. However, retooling is an option that should not be ruled out either.
